Box springs, divans and sprung bases

Traditional two sided innerspring mattresses, especially those built with a hand tied coil unit and natural fillings, were designed to sit on a sprung base. A true box spring contains its own coils and gives slightly under load, absorbing shock and letting the mattress flex as a pair.
